Spoilers for volumes 1 to 5 (plus the one from vol 6) below the cut.

Hans Humpty is an assassin of unknown background, whom doesn't reveal much about himself. He has, in the past, come across and gotten in a lot of trouble due to barriers made by the Saint of Barriers, though, and he has been hired by many people to kill. He also modeled his way of fighting after cats, creating the Cat's Blade style. Somewhere along the line, the Kyoma commander Tgurneu cursed him with the Book of Truth, making Hans unable to lie, but Hans worked his way around it. He has been an assassin for about ten years, or so he says.

When he became one of the Six Flowers, whom are supposed to defeat the demon overlord the Majin, he first went to see the king of the country closest to the Wailing Demon Territory, where the Majin and its followers the Kyoma live, to see how much money the king would pay him if he succeeded with the resealing of the Majin. After he recieved an advance payment with promise of more money upon fulfilling the mission, he hid what he had been given and then headed to the place where the Six Flowers was supposed to meet. On the way he met Mora, another of the Flowers, and she told him about a Illusion Fog Barrier, which would keep anyone in and out of the Wailing Demon Territory. The barrier was supposed to be activated once the Flowers had entered the Wailing Demon Territory, but instead it was activated before they had all gathered, locking them inside the barrier. Once Hans and Mora reached the temple of the Illusion Fog Barrier, they found out that there were not six people with the Flower crest, but seven, which meant that one was an impostor. After everyone got to say their piece and fling accusations around, one of the Flowers called Adlet took the Flower Fremy hostage, and when he ran away, Hans hit him in the back with one of his knives. However, Fremy got away and returned to the others, and Adlet survived. The next day, Hans and the Saint of Swamps Chamo were told to guard the temple while the others searched for Adlet. Chamo decided that she was bored and went to play instead, while Hans hid where he wouldn't be seen, and waited for Adlet to show up. When he did, Hans defeated him in battle and, deciding that he was sure that Adlet wasn't the one who activated the Illusion Fog Barrier, like the others thought, the two decided to look around for clues to find out who really did it. They were interrupted by Chamo and had to run away from her, but in the end they managed to defeat her, and tied her up. Adlet went to talk to Fremy while Hans kept an eye on Chamo, and when Mora showed up by the temple, Hans told her that Adlet wasn't the impostor, or the one who locked them inside the barrier. Mora didn't believe him and, untying Chamo and telling the girl to keep an eye on Hans, told all the Flowers that Adlet had almost killed Hans, which made the other Flowers hunt down Adlet. While they did so, Chamo and Hans were left alone at the temple, and Hans got the idea to look under the temple, so Chamo used her powers to dig, and they found a copy of the instructions to the activation of the barrier, as well as the way to deactivate it. They headed to Adlet and the others, and Adlet, with help of Hans and Chamo, outed the princess of Piena, Nashetania, as the real Seventh. She fled and escaped, and the barrier was deactivated. But just as they thought that they could rest easy and trust everyone, another person, the Saint of Blood Rolonia, appeared, claiming to be a Flower, which raised the number to seven Six Flowers once again.

Heading into the Wailing Demon Territory, the seven Flowers tried to cheer up Goldof, who was Nashetania's loyal bodyguard. During their march they found out from Fremy that the Kyoma had three generals, Tgurneu, Cargikk, and Dozzu. Tgurneu was the one whom handled the offense, while Cargikk handled the defense and protection of the Majin. Dozzu was the traitor who wanted to create a world where humans and Kyoma could live in peace, even if he had to kill millions of people to reach that goal. When they took a break, Tgurneu appeared in front of them, and they fought him but failed in defeating him, so they had to run away. They ran to a barrier which was created by the Saint of Destiny, whom was the one to first seal the Majin and the one that created the Six Flower Crest and the existence of the Six Flowers. There they tried to figure out a way to defeat Tgurneu, and after a while Adlet, Hans, Goldof, and Rolonia headed back to where they fought Tgurneu, while Mora, Fremy and Chamo stayed to keep a barrier up, where Tgurneu and other Kyoma were sealed for the time being. They found an underground lair which Adlet and Goldof explored, then Goldof found an eaten piece of fig, which was what they were really looking for. It turned out that Tgurneu was a Kyoma in the shape of a fig tree, and when other Kyoma ate of the figs, he could control them by possession. Mora told the group that Fremy had run away, and Rolonia and Hans rushed to her, while Goldof and Adlet followed Fremy. It was a trap, though, because Mora had defeated and caught both Fremy and Chamo, and when Rolonia and Hans reached her location, she killed Hans. He was revived with Rolonia's powers as the Saint of Blood though, and he freaked out pretty badly. After that, Mora told them that she had no choice but to kill one of the Flowers, because Tgurneu had taken her daughter hostage with a parasite Kyoma. Mora told them that she was fully prepared to be killed by the other Flowers, but they let her stay alive, even if Chamo wanted to kill her for killing Hans.

As they headed further into the Wailing Demon Territory, they reached a wall leading past one of the first lines of defense of the Kyoma. They broke though it, and later reached a deep valley with steep cliffs and only two bridges across. As they searched for a secret way across, Goldof left the group, and the others followed him when they were worried. They couldn't find Goldof, but they did find Nashetania, whom attacks them, and activated a trap she planted inside Chamo's stomach (she has a swamp in her stomach, where she keeps Kyoma that she has eaten and purified and can control). The trap is somethng called a Blade Gem, and it had numerous blades that teared the girl apart from the inside. As Fremy, Rolonia and Adlet chaseed Nashetania, Mora healed Chamo as good as she could, while Hans protected them from Kyoma. On one occasion Adlet returned to ask Mora about Saint Items, and then returned to try to find Nashetania and Goldof, because to save Chamo they had to make Nashetania get over 1 km away from Chamo, or kill her, and Adlet thought that Goldof was hiding the princess. While Hans was protecting Chamo and Mora, Dozzu appeared, and Hans and the small but powerful Kyoma fought until suddenly, the Blade Gem deactivated and Chamo was saved. Everyone returned and after a while, Nashetania and Dozzu joined the group, and told them that the Nashetania that tried to kill Chamo was a fake, whom had one of Nashetania's arms, which was why the fake could use Nashetania's powers. The real Nashetania had been taken hostage by Tgurneu, while Dozzu was manipulated through his bond with Nashetania. The Flowers and Dozzu's faction temporarily made peace, deciding to help each other until Tgurneu was defeated, and with Dozzu's help, they crossed the valley. They headed further into the Wailing Demon Territory, toward a Temple of Destiny, as Dozzu has heard that Tgurneu has made a Saint Item there, called the Black Barren Flower, and that the fake Crest that Nashetania had was created by a former Flower, the Saint of Time.

As they headed toward the temple they came to an abandoned village, where humans used to live. While most of the group looked around, Hans and Dozzu went to check out their surroundings and the forest close by, finding a clearing where there were hundreds of Corpse Soldiers created by an insect Kyoma. The Corpse Soldiers charged at any sound, and were meant to stop or slow down the Flowers in case they headed for the temple. When Hans and Dozzu returned, they reported the presence of the Corpse Soldiers to the others, and found out that people from Adlet's home village had lived in the village that they had found. The thought that they were most likely dead and now Corpse Soldiers made Adlet depressed, until he decided that he couldn't do anything to help the soldiers. While everyone bickered about what to do about the Corpse Soldiers - Rolonia being of the opinion that they should save them, while everyone else (besides the non-responsive Adlet) thought that they could cut them down - Hans approached Nashetania to plan a trap to see if Rolonia was the Seventh or not. Hans borrowed a Kyoma Summoning Flute from Nashetania and planted it on Rolonia. The plan was that if Tolonia wanted to change the plan that the group made concerning the soldiers and help them, Nashetania would corner Rolonia and seclude the Saint of Blood from the rest of the group, so that Hans could see what expression Rolonia would make if she thought she would definitely die. Hans' part of the plan against the Corpse Soldiers was to attract their attention, make them chase him over a river and trap them on the other side, but he also grabbed some string and other tools and, after having succeeded in his part of the plan, disguised himself as a Corpse Soldier. While still in the disguise, he found Rolonia, and saw that Rolonia really appeared to be a real Flower, so he saved her at the last moment. Rolonia was convinced that among the dead Corpse Soldiers, there was someone who was still alive, and she convinced Adlet of this. After a while, Hans agreed to search together with them. Fremy shots the Kyoma controlling the Corpse Soldiers and the soldiers started to die, so they worried that the still living soldier also would die. But at the last moment, Hans, Adlet and Rolonia managed to find the living Corpse Soldier, who turned out to be Adlet's childhood friend whom Adlet thought was dead. The soldier told Adlet, Hans and Rolonia that Tgurneu had created a weapon called the Black Barren Flower, which would suck out the power of the Flower Crests and leave the Flowers exposed to the poison of the Wailing Demon Territory. The Crest protected them and made them able to be in the Territory without dying. The soldier also told them that the Black Barren Flower took the form of a young girl, with white hair and cold eyes. After telling them that, the soldier died. They were left troubled, however, because the person that the soldier had described was one of the other Flowers, the Saint of Gunpowder Fremy. However, Adlet decided that they shouldn't tell the others about Fremy yet, as some would want to instantly want to kill her without listening to what Fremy had to say about it.
